About RDI

We convene communities, landowners, funders, and public institutions to practice a different kind of development — one that starts with relationships, and grows a living place into higher potential.

Regenar Development Initiative (RDI) is birthing Kiwaatule-2030: a community-led vision for urban regeneration rooted in Obuntu — the nested interdependence that makes life possible. We learn by doing, in real neighbourhoods, with real land, with aligned funders and with the wetland treated as a living shareholder — not a project site.

Our work focuses on restoring the foundations that make lasting change possible: trust in place, collective land governance capacity, and finance that can flow with life rather than against it.

Our Programs

Three strands of practice — all emerging from the Kiwaatule living lab — that enable communities and partners move from intention to real-world regeneration. At the heart of our programs is "learning as a means of coordinating collective will & resources" for shared evolution.

Land Regeneration

Kiwaatule-2030: Learning as a mean of coordinating land development decisions

A community-led regeneration journey in Kampala’s Nalubaaga wetland bioregion. Through the Nalubaaga Valley Community (NVC), 800+ landowners are pioneering collective governance — 1 decimal of land = 1 relational vote — to restore the wetland as a thriving nature park and rebuild a regenerative urban economy.

Bioregional Governance

Obuntu Resets: Learning as a means of coordinating will for collectively stewarding place

A living experiment that turns money into Units of Caring — micro-flows that resource community-chosen activities to heal broken relations between people, land, governance, and future generations. Built for money to support caring at the speed communities and natural ecosystems actually need.

Finance & Investment

Funding Learning Journeys: Learning as a means of coordinating finance.

Facilitated spaces where funders practice deploying capital as both outer change and inner change. Participants commit micro-flows into Obuntu Resets and learn with place-based communities — weaving funding flows with consciousness flows enabling the evolution of finance in and of itself.

Publications

These are not “deliverables.” They’re invitations — stories, frameworks, and concrete pathways for partners who want to move from funding symptoms to restoring the relations that cause them.

Kiwaatule Story of Place
A grounded portrait of Kiwaatule and Nalubaaga: what people love, what’s changing, and the deeper potential asking to be met. All generated from how a devolving relation with land d/evolved the meaning of Kiwaatule from a 'Plentiful Bioregion' -> Drummings of Joy -> Unfortunate death / struggle. We explore What will rebirthing Nalubaaga’s potential in an urban context look like? And what will the next meaning of Kiwaatule be?
